Welcome to Mac Pelican

mac-pelican0011

We are a boutique home, gift and accessories store, located in Glenferrie Road, Hawthorn, VIC. Mac Pelican focuses on local talent, natural products and one off pieces. Stocking everything from buttery leather bags and belts, to embroided cushions, handmade jewellery and scarves, and whittled wooden skipping ropes.

In addition to the many local products there is the occasional imported gem to provide the store with a unique range of gift and home wares. And of course we cater for the little people too, with beautifully crocheted toys, organic baby products and gorgeous nursery artwork.

We hope you love our store as much as we do.

newness

Well I’ve just returned from Sunny Sydney over the weekend. I attended the Life in Style gift fair up there and boy oh boy - the excitement, the exhaustion, the anticipation - it all consuming! It was a great weekend full of lovely new products and even more lovely creators. Seeing all this super great stuff really puts a spring in your step. And all so local and lush.

So over the coming weeks expect a lot of ‘oohs and aahs’ and general ‘ooh la la’s’ from yours truly. I will be posting new products as they reach me in store. And I simply can’t wait!

So to get the ball rolling - everyone’s favourite, new Nancybird has arrived in store today. I know, Gasp! I have just unpacked and patted each bag several times. And yes they are as soft as ever. Here’s a sneaky peak of what’s just landed. And remember to check in over the coming weeks for more goodness.

more plates?

Wandering around the store this morning (having a little chit chat to the animal lamps), I suddenly realised I have a bit of an obsession with plates…..I had no idea this had happened, and now it seems, it’s upon me. I wonder if you share the same obsession? Or maybe you do, and just haven’t realised it yet.

I got some new plates in last week from Catherine at Chik - you may know her gorgeous jewellery trees that I already stock. Well, she’s made these super plates with images cut out of them to hang on your walls. I also have some new stock from Lightly - the new blue and white plates they designed in conjunction with the clever peeps at Studio Sam. As well as Lightly’s new swallows made from vintage saucers, just like the butterflies she makes that surely you’re familiar with by now? So beautiful. Honestly.

Farmhouse or Seaside?

Where would you like to go? Undecided? Go to both - it’s easy with these stamp sets.

Ok, so maybe you don’t really want to sit at the kitchen table stamping and colouring in seaside and farmhouse scenes, but your children might, or your grandchildren? Or you might want to seal an envelope with a sailing boat, or put a few kanga’s on a card? Really, you can do whatever you like.

Each one of these stamps is locally designed and illustrated, then printed onto stamps and ‘rubberised’ (that was my word, not theirs). Timber is then locally sourced and prepared to mount the stamps onto and once this is done, the material for each bag are sourced, sewn and packed together with a gorgeous letterpress card to seal the deal. Thanks Two Degrees in Melbourne - what a champion effort, donchyathink? All local, all recycled, and totally ace and unique stamps.
